Monta Flora did not use a herd bull during its first 4 years of operation in order to establish its stud on world class semen from predominantly North American sires. We patiently persisted with lower calving percentages associated with artificial breeding in order to build a high quality, productive foundation herd.
Monta Flora has focussed on low birth weight, high growth rates, carcase weight and animal quietness in our breeding program. We breed Apricot, Red & Black animals with an emphasis on polled.
In 2005 we purchased Timor Poll Yamba as a 'back up' bull to our A.I. program. Yamba is an outstanding sire with well above average commercial traits and good birth weight. While taking into account individual EBV's, Limousin commercial traits are grouped into a single indicator known as an $Index which reflects the genetic merit of an animal for each of three production systems.
